2K Games has welcomed Ben Brinkman from Respawn Entertainment to oversee the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently working on the forthcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Brinkman assumes the role of studio head at the development studio following the exit of previous head Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' disappointing unveiling last autumn.
On Wednesday, the company's top executive David Ismailer informed team members about this strategic move through an official communication, which stressed that early feedback sessions had revealed the need for a distinct direction.
The president noted that the team is now overhauling the project with a refreshed vision, aiming to address player expectations.
This announcement mirrors a comparable step taken by the publisher in the summer, when they brought on an industry veteran from Blizzard to work on the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.
Here is the entire message from Ismailer's announcement:
Dear Team—
I understand you all just wrapped up your gathering - I hope you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the positive developments. Previously I shared you all a message, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this team. You all are some of the most driven and talented designers we have had the pleasure to collaborate with - and we’re eager for that partnership to continue.”
Given your hard work and adaptability, particularly over the last year, you repeatedly show that.
The community feedback from last autumn’s Project ETHOS playtest was revealing. It confirmed the appeal of a action-packed game but made clear we still had improvements to make. It highlighted the requirement for a sharper brand.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve progressed. You embraced the feedback to mind and revamped the title with a renewed direction - one that’s positioned to achieve its promise to our fans.
Our confidence in Project ETHOS increases every day. To boost the remarkable progress you’ve made, I am thrilled to introduce Ben Brinkman as the new Studio Head of 31st Union. After several months of conversations, Ben comes aboard us on Monday, October 20.
Ben’s leadership and background in the PVP shooter genre is considerable, having spent the last 15 years developing and leading some of the most popular titles in gaming, for example the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, Apex Legends.
Let’s together in receiving him soon. We are all looking forward to continue seeing the progress of Project ETHOS in the weeks to ahead.
David

"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Customize your character in real-time to suit your personal playstyle," the game's pitch explains. "Face the competition with unique powers, stakes, and obstacles that evolve every match. Will you safely extract with your hard-earned loot? Or go big, gamble everything, and hope your group can secure victory? The choice is up to you."
The game lacks an confirmed launch window or consoles, but enthusiasts can anticipate further news as production advances.
